Donors of gametes or embryos should be informed of the following:
Under section 33 of the Human Reproductive Technology Ordinance (Cap. 561), the Council is required to keep and maintain a register, namely Register A. It contains information of the children (born through Reproductive Technology (RT) procedures involving the use of donated gametes or embryos), their legal parents and the related donors.
An adult who has attained the age of 16 may apply to the Council to check whether or not he or she was or may have been born in consequence of a RT procedure involving donated gametes or embryos or whether the adult might be related to the person whom the adult proposes to marry. However, no identifying information regarding the gamete or embryo donor is to be released.
